The Time I Went to Moldova

For the past five years or so an organization that I’ve been passionate about is Justice & Mercy International. Justice & Mercy is a non-profit based out of Franklin, Tennessee that cares for the poor, the orphaned, and the forgotten people of the world. They work in two countries – Brazil and Moldova. I love the work they do and I consider myself blessed to work alongside them to tell the stories of the lives they are changing.

This past September, with help of April and Carly from Dace & Mohr, I went to Moldova to capture and tell the story of a girl whose life has been transformed through Justice & Mercy and their transitional program.

Daniela was born into a happy family, but she experienced tragedy at a young age after her parents became alcoholics. One night, her parents passed away in a motorcycle accident and she was sent to live with an aunt and uncle—but her situation there wasn’t much better. Her uncle didn’t want her or her brother there and he beat both of them, putting them to work around the house.

When Daniela completed school, she had nowhere to go and was contemplating remaining in her village, but she learned about a program run by Justice & Mercy called The Grace House. Feeling trapped and with no plans, but didn’t want to remain living with her uncle, she applied for the program and was accepted.

Meeting Daniela, you would never guess that she would have the story that she has. She is so joyous, happy, and full of life; she is fun and full of personality, and it is such a testimony to the work that Justice & Mercy does – the programs work and the Gospel transforms lives. I would strongly encourage you this year to look into the work that Justice & Mercy does and consider donating to both Moldova & Brazil.

Moldova is such a beautiful country. It’s also a blessing to be able to tell these stories that are so inspiring and bigger than life. Though my time there was brief, I’m looking forward to one day going back and being able to tell more stories of the beautiful people of Moldova and the work that Justice & Mercy International is doing.
